How you can help!

UNCLE SAM

We frequently get asked what the public can do to assist and support our volunteers. There are many ways that the public can help us to help you. It starts with simple things such as ensuring that your mailbox is numbered adequately for easy identification for EMS in the event of an emergency. Other things such as conforming to local building codes so that our ambulance can fit into your driveway, to becoming involved in EMS and becoming an MRT or EMT and helping those in your community.

Mailbox

Mail Boxes & Property Identification
In order for us to find your house faster, the number of the address should be easily visible on the mailbox. In order to be able to see your number from a distance, the numbering should be at least 3" x 3" and if possibe, numbering that is made out of reflective material would be the best as it is easily seen during the night time. If you do not have a mailbox, it would be helpful to have the number posted on the nearest item at the end of the driveway that would be at least of comparbale size to a mailbox.

Turning on the lights (exterior and interior)
After calling 911, even if it is in the daytime, one thing you can do to alert you to us and make it easier to find you is to turn on the exterior lights. This will also allow us to get safely into your house and you (or a family member) safely out of the house. In addition, two of our members, Matt and Adam are afraid of the dark.

Driveway Pillars

Building Codes and Driveway Access
Prior to making any alterations to your driveway or house, you should check with the Town of Washington Commissions on Land Use. If you add pillars or any type of fencing in your drive way, you should verify how far apart they should be prior to doing so. If we or the Fire Department cannot get in your driveway when needed, it will delay any action on our part to help you when needed.
